A pivotal part of operational readiness is having a go-kit prepared. For Emergency Communications, there are additional pieces needed to be prepared to deploy a field station:
- Radio(s) as needed
- Radio accessory kit including microphone, key, etc.
- Feed line for connecting the radio to the antenna
- Power supply for the radio(s)
- VSWR meter
- Folding table
- Notebook
- Flashlight and batteries
- Push-up pole with guy wires
- Toilet paper
- Antenna analyzer
- Tool kit (including needle-nose pliers and diagonal cutters, Philips and slot screwdrivers, etc.)
- Feed line jumpers (3-4ft)
- Antenna tuner
- Desk lamp
- Outlet strip
- Pencils / pens
- Antenna(s)
- Extra guy anchors and rope
- Maps
- VOM (volt-ohm meter)
For personal items, a basic Cold weather / Warm weather Survival kit includes:
- Flares (self lighting)
- Blankets (wool or good insulating material)
- Dry socks (wool or good insulating material)
- Gloves (mittens preferred)
- Candles or other sources of heat
- Tarp (shelter from rain / snow / wind / sun)
- Food ration bars
- Water (at least two gallons)
- Extra dry clothes (light colored clothing if warm weather)
- Boots (insulated if winter)
- Radio with extra batteries (see Radio Go-kit above)
- Flashlight with extra batteries
- Waterproof matches
- Sun screen
- Insect repellent
